WorkTempl, based in the Lake Tahoe/Truckee area with plans to expand to similar communities, is a brand-new purpose-built web service that provides gig work matching for local workers with homeowners and businesses in the area. As a public benefit corporation, WorkTempl is committed to both individuals and local businesses providing free membership to people seeking work and charging a modest membership fee for homeowners and businesses using their services.
WorkTempl had a fantastic idea, but they needed an experienced and resourceful website design and development firm to make their dream a reality. So, in steps Lounge Lizard — with extensive know-how and hands-on mastery of start-up site development, Lounge Lizard was the perfect company to help them create their online community with a brand-new website.
Wanting to have an interactive site where workers could post profiles and advertise their skills while people looking for workers could connect and hire, WorkTempl was also interested in building a site that could be franchised to new communities with similar needs in the future. Lounge Lizard made sure to keep that front of mind during the design and development process.
With such an innovative idea, WorkTempl wanted to convey a fun, artistic vibe that captured the unique Lake Tahoe personality. The site needed to attract everyone from people looking to do gig work to volunteers to homeowners and business owners that needed temporary or permanent workers.
They definitely wanted to stay far away from any sort of corporate ‘look’ or ‘feel’.
Researching some similar sites, Lounge Lizard saw the unique opportunity to create a new type of online community and user experience that was focused on preserving the community by keeping people working. It was important to differentiate this site from others like it in the online space.
After polishing the new online brand, the Brandtenders at Lounge Lizard conceived of and designed a user experience and direct response strategy that met the WorkTempl objectives.
Approachable and relatable to everyone, it was important to have a content strategy where different user personas found step-by-step instruction without it being messy or confusing. In keeping with the Lake Tahoe vibe, the Brandtenders also designed custom iconography and drawings that were used throughout the site to tie it all together visually.
Next, the development team created an interactive work categories component where a profile cataloging process allows workers to create and maintain business profiles. From skilled trades to house cleaning to hot tub maintenance, these profiles were each member’s calling card. Functionality and data preservation was key to the site’s success.
For further functionality, Lounge Lizard’s development group worked hand-in-hand with WorkTempl to facilitate a built-in third-party background check service as a value-added perk for potential workers wanting to demonstrate trustworthiness.
Once the site was developed, WorkTempl also wanted Lounge Lizard’s expertise to have On-Site SEO in place to enhance their search capabilities. And the entire system had to be multi-lingual to meet the needs of their diverse community.
As a final flourish, WorkTempl wanted to convey its strong commitment to the Lake Tahoe community. Lounge Lizard worked with them to develop message boards and a community calendar as a way to provide the usability that keeps people coming back to a site.
By creating a stand-out interactive site, Lounge Lizard’s Brandtenders set WorkTempl on a path to success.
