Something Wicked Games is an independent AAA Video Game Studio founded in 2022 by some of the creative talent behind the Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Outer Worlds franchises. The company has expanded to 10 states across the U.S. and Canada and has more than 1,400 employees. Something Wicked Games has generated a lot of industry buzz with its work developing Wyrdsong, a preternatural RPG set in a semi-historical Middle Ages Portugal.
Something Wicked Games was brand new in 2022, and the company needed a website for its company announcement at Gamescom in August ’22. For the win, the Brandtenders at Lounge Lizard were able to deliver a brand guide, logo, and easy-to-maintain website in less than three months so the gaming studio could attract fans and investors alike.
The prompt: Gamescom.
The QTE (quick time event): A new website for Something Wicked Games in time to announce the development of its Wyrdsong role-playing game.
Something Wicked Games asked the Brandtenders at Lounge Lizard Worldwide for an immersive website that transports visitors into their fantasy gaming world.
The gaming company was brand new. Leaders with AAA video experience are crafting the game they are developing, so it was undoubtedly going to get massive exposure. The website needed to be ready.
With Gamescom on the horizon, Something Wicked Games was anticipating millions of pings during the company’s announcement on the live stream.
The Brandtenders were not going to let Something Wicked Games get rekt.
Lounge Lizard didn’t just design a website. The timing was just as important as the website itself. Our Brandtenders ensured it was launched on the day of Gamescom so the new game would not be leaked.
It was a perfect play.
Website visitors are treated to a dreamscape into a fantastical world using parallax movement on the homepage. (Parallax scrolling is a design trend in which closer images appear to be moving faster than smaller images that look farther away.)
Something Wicked Games also needed a logo to tie everything together. Their team brought ideas of a snake and egg to the table and the team at Lounge Lizard.
Using that inspiration and being motivated by the golden nuggets you win at the end of video games, a fanciful and creative snake in the shape of an “S” was born.
It’s time to play.
There’s no question that Something Wicked Games was a hit after its announcement at Gamescom with fans and investors. Its website handled an immense amount of traffic and invited visitors into a new world of lore through dynamic design, images, and copy. With Wyrdsong still being developed, Something Wicked Games is still attracting fans — and company talent.
