Membership portal website design project launches for The Broadway League
Making an adjustment for a website that is in use constantly can seem like a monumental task but with the membership portal website design project that launched for The Broadway League, that task was checked off as a complete.
Although their existing website was well built and functional, The Broadway League, who is the official trade association for the entire Broadway industry, wanted an exciting new look and feel. Along with desiring a fully responsive site to take advantage of mobile users, they needed direct administrative control over content and the site itself to be able to make changes as Broadway changed which can happen quite regularly.
For those not aware the Broadway Theatre District is a large part of New York City and is the center of the world’s entertainment industry. It is the world’s most visited tourist attraction, drawing over 39 million visitors each year, many of which also enjoy a theatre event while in town.
Completing the Task
The existing website was multi-layered and complex with both public and private areas, a CMS and full textual search. Making changes required use of powerful frameworks combined with customized modules that would fit their exact needs.
A Python and Django framework was used with a responsive design. With custom modules and a custom administrative side they can now easily import data, create and add custom pages and URLs when and where they want without needing to go back to a developer.
More customization was added in the form of charts, a calendar, the menu system, and ecommerce features specifically tailored for the League’s needs all while maintaining the simplicity and flexibility that was a primary goal for the re-design to keep pace with the ever-changing world of Broadway. The dynamic menu is more useful allowing users to either use the search function for quick results or travel down menu options to reach any of the numerous pages the League boasts.
About the Broadway League
The Broadway League is the national trade association for the Broadway industry. 700-plus members include theatre owners and operators, producers, presenters, and general managers in North American cities, as well as suppliers of goods and services to the commercial theatre industry. Each year, League members bring Broadway to more than 30 million people in New York and more than 200 cities across the U.S. and Canada.
The membership portal website design project for The Broadway League was very large and intricate, requiring a strong design and development team with numerous Django modules coded uniquely to fulfill their needs. With ongoing updates and improvements to add new features the site is now poised properly to evolve and adjust much as Broadway itself does as new shows open and old ones close.
