CoValence Laboratories is a contract manufacturing company and a leading certified personal and skin care formulator. As beauty scientists, they offer competitive and innovative products to many large skincare and cosmetics companies through formulation and custom packaging that arrives ready for labeling.
CoValence wanted to showcase its ability to manufacture lower quantities to attract new business, positioning them as the perfect solution for startups and independent brands that may have little capital. CoValence’s ability to quickly scale volume helps capture a unique audience by highlighting its flexibility compared to its competition.
CoValence wanted a new website that showcased its specialties, including its research capacity, evolving inventory, and a keen interest in constantly bringing new materials and formulations to market. They wanted a new website that reflected their custom product development and private label products, like IconicA®, while also focusing on their ability to meet and exceed industry standards for purity and quality.
CoValence wanted to update and refresh their stale, corporate website that was overly ‘text heavy’ while keeping a ‘manufacturer look’ for their established B2B clients. The new site had to position the company to expand its customer base and develop its private-label products.
Their vision was to grow their reach beyond the large and mid-sized companies looking to switch manufacturers for their cosmetics and skincare lines — they wanted to target a younger audience segment and include independent brands looking to launch new product lines, even with challenging budget constraints.
With a historic target audience of academic scientists in the 35- to 65-year-old age range, CoValence wanted to expand the offerings to entice:
They set KPIs that included rebuilding their entire site with an eye toward mobile responsiveness, user-friendly interactions, solid UI/UX, and a relevant and prominent career recruitment page.
As part of the overall project and the development of their thought leadership page, CoValence also wanted Lounge Lizard to design and create a master template for PDFs and conceive a way to make bold case studies that adhered to the strict privacy issues required by their clients.
The Lounge Lizard design team started by rebuilding CoValence’s logos to be much more scalable and usable across the board, setting the tone for design fluid branding that focused on bright, bold colors and tonal overlays in the product depictions. The beautiful cosmetic blends were used on the website to purposefully illustrate the multiple layers of ingredients in the products.
Keeping the design clean but still fluid, the design team kept the look modern, using organic shapes to mirror the custom beauty formulas. To further emulate their culture as beauty scientists, the designers used the molecule graphic in the logo as a repeating unifier throughout the site to show the DNA rooted in everything CoValence creates.
The website design prioritizes its exclusive line, IconicA®, and the company’s pride in its customer service and commitment to helping vendors every step of the way. From the copy to the in-house images, the new website creates the stage where CoValence’s products, deep knowledge, and experience show throughout.
To build the mobile responsive site, the development team used the latest technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, PHP, jQuery, and JavaScript, with a modular front-end design that keeps the code maintainable and more conducive to updates and/or modifications in the future.
To ensure users’ safe and compliant experience, Lounge Lizard used Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption and intuitive breadcrumbs on all pages. Website speed was within Google’s Page Speed Insights criteria limits prior to launch, and for digital marketing, our Brandtenders installed social sharing widgets on each page.
Once the site was fully functional, the QA team performed extensive cross-platform, browser, and quality assurance testing before handing CoValence the keys.
With its bright, modern look and clean flow, CoValence’s new website significantly improves on its previous website, which was being weighed down by too much copy and minimal, uninspired graphics and images. The Lounge Lizard Brandtenders mixed design expertise with high-tech development to craft a winning website that is driving business and ‘wowing’ the competition.
