CCI Health Services is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that brings high-quality, affordable healthcare to every patient during all stages of life. CCI is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This community health center receives funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to provide primary healthcare services to underserved communities.
The objective of the new CCI website design was to make it more modern, user-friendly, and accessible to a broader audience. The primary goals were to attract more donors and patients by providing an easy-to-navigate platform with relevant information about the organization’s services, events, and news. The Brandtenders at Lounge Lizard also were tasked with making the website multi-lingual, ADA compliant, and meet the communication thresholds for the organization’s patients and donors.
The Brandtenders at Lounge Lizard approached the redesign of the CCI website just like all of their web design projects: They started with research!
The team analyzed the existing website, identified its strengths and weaknesses, and created a sitemap and wireframes for the new design. The team used a traditional hospital color palette for consistency and placed mini-icons throughout the website to make it visually engaging.
As a nonprofit, our Brandtenders know donations are critical. Brandtenders created a donation section highlighting what contribution amounts would mean to the organization and how the donations would help people. This section also was brought into one place to streamline the donation process for the donors.
CCI’s other target audience is its patients.
The patient section was streamlined to simplify the ways to find schedules and contact information. Brandtenders made sure the website was easy to navigate and vistors could find the sought-after information.
The website’s multi-lingual feature also was a priority. Lounge Lizard made sure the website could be translated into different languages to cater to a broader audience. The imagery on the website was also carefully chosen to represent the various demographics that CCI serves.
The Brandtenders at Lounge Lizard leveraged the UserWay widget, a cloud-based accessibility solution, to ensure a comprehensive legal and regulatory compliance framework covering the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508, WCAG 2.1 AA.
Being ADA-compliant means your website is accessible to everyone. ADA requires that all electronic and information technology (EIT) be accessible to people with disabilities. This includes websites, mobile applications, electronic documents, and multimedia. Failure to comply with the ADA can result in legal action and fines.
Traditionally, achieving ADA compliance can be costly and time-consuming, involving hiring accessibility consultants, conducting audits, and making significant changes to website design and functionality. This can be a significant barrier for small businesses and nonprofit organizations that do not have the resources to invest in a comprehensive accessibility strategy.
Our Brandtenders chose to implement the UserWay widget because it’s an affordable and effective solution.
Making a website ADA-compliant involves a range of measures, including providing alternative text for images, providing captions and transcripts for multimedia, ensuring that the website is navigable by keyboard, and ensuring that the website is compatible with assistive technologies such as screen readers.
The UserWay widget adds a tool to the website that allows users to adjust its settings to their needs. Users can change the text size, contrast, and font and use keyboard navigation to move around the website. The widget also includes a screen reader that can read the website’s content out loud. This is particularly important for users with visual impairments who rely on screen readers to access the content of the website.
Ensuring a website is ADA-compliant and using tools such as the UserWay widget can significantly impact a website’s accessibility and usability. It can make a website more inclusive and ensure all users, including those with disabilities, have equal access to content and services.
As a health center, CCI can now reach a broad audience with its website and assist the patients who need care.
The redesign of the CCI website has improved the organization’s outreach and services. The website’s modern design, user-friendly platform, and accessibility features have made it more appealing to donors and patients, and it has provided a better digital gateway to the organization’s services, information, and events. The website’s multi-lingual feature and UserWay widget have added additional functionalities to assist users, making the website more accessible to a larger audience, including those with disabilities.
